Every metal in the kit. One synth.

Closed hats, open hats, rides, crashes and cowbell from a six-oscillator metal core and a noise band, with a sample layer underneath for the real cymbal.

02 Engine

Metal, noise, decay

Six square oscillators at inharmonic ratios make the metal, a noise band makes the air, and one BLEND knob sets one against the other. Tune, a tone filter and the metallic spread set what kind of cymbal it is.

BLENDTUNETONE FILTERSPREADNOISEDECAYHOLDPAIR

TONE and METAL

Blend metal against noise, tune the whole bank, filter it, and spread the six oscillators apart or pull them together.

Long ring for rides and crashes

HOLD adds a slow second stage after the first decay, from 300 ms to 6 s, so a ride keeps ringing and a crash washes out long after a hat would stop.

Cowbell and low metal

The PAIR bank swaps the six oscillators for the classic two-tone 808 cowbell pair at 540 and 800 Hz. LOW BAND opens a lower band, centred anywhere from 300 Hz to 3 kHz, for bells and gongs.

Width and colour

WIDTH spreads the oscillators and noise across the stereo field. X-MOD ring-modulates neighbouring oscillators, RESO sharpens the tone filter, and RING adds a comb to the noise.

03 Layers

A synth on top, a sample underneath

Layer A is the synth. Layer B is a sample with its own envelope, start point, punch and reverse. One slider blends them, and SOLO A or SOLO B lets you hear either on its own while you shape it.

Brass Crash  A 688 ms synth decay over a crash sample.

The picture is the finished hit

The waveform you shape on is the synth and the sample summed and run through the whole FX strip, redrawn as you move any control. You see what the compressor and the reverb did before you hear it.

Real recorded samples, or yours

Most factory presets put a real recorded one-shot from the built-in library (125 of them in Cymba) under the synth, tuned and filtered to sit with it. Drag your own WAV onto layer B to use yours instead.

Drag the hit out

Drag the finished hit onto a track as a 24-bit WAV at your session rate, with the FX printed. Each drag is a new file in Documents/Deish Media/Cymba Renders.

Every hit a little different

VARY nudges each hit so a roll does not sound like one sample repeated. Velocity sets how hard the hit lands, and PIANO plays it chromatically across the keyboard.

04 FX

Eight stages, already on the channel

HEAT, GRIT, SCULPT, SWEEP, MOTION, PRESS, RELAY and SPACE: the same family of engines as Base6ix and Ryza, on the end of the drum, each with its own enable.

08 Questions

Questions

Is it a sample player?

No. Layer A synthesises every hit from oscillators and noise as you play it. Layer B adds a sample underneath when you want one, and you can turn it down to nothing.

Does it work on a Mac?

Yes. The signed and notarized macOS installer has VST3, AU and the standalone app for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and one licence covers Windows and macOS machines alike.

Does the open hat choke when the closed hat plays?

Each instance is its own instrument and retriggers itself, so a new note cuts the ringing one on the same instance. Two instances, one open and one closed, ring independently.

Is it only hi-hats?

No. Rides, crashes, shakers, ticks and cowbell all come from the same engine, and 22 of the presets are rides alone.
