Body, wires, snap
A snare is a drum and a set of wires. Smack builds both: a pitched body with its own drop and decay, a noise band for the wires, and a snap transient on the front. One BLEND knob sets drum against wires.
TONE PITCHPITCH DROPBLENDNOISE TONESNAPRINGFLAM
TONE
Tone pitch, pitch drop and tone decay shape the drum: a deep 170 Hz thud with a long drop for big rooms, a tight 260 Hz knock for trap.
WIRES and SNAP
Five noise colours, a noise tone and their own decay for the rattle, and a snap control for the stick on the head.
Ring and body
RING adds a tuned ring to the wires, up to three octaves above the drum, with its own damping. BODY SHAPE morphs the drum from sine through triangle to saw, and BODY FM lets the upper mode bend the lower for a harder crack.
Flam and drop
FLAM puts up to four grace taps 5 to 40 ms ahead of the main stroke. DROP CURVE turns the pitch drop into a fast zap or a lazy dive.
A synth on top, a sample underneath
Layer A is the synth. Layer B is a sample with its own envelope, start point, punch and reverse. One slider blends them, and SOLO A or SOLO B lets you hear either on its own while you shape it.
The picture is the finished hit
The waveform you shape on is the synth and the sample summed and run through the whole FX strip, redrawn as you move any control. You see what the compressor and the reverb did before you hear it.
Real recorded samples, or yours
Most factory presets put a real recorded one-shot from the built-in library (75 of them in Smack) under the synth, tuned and filtered to sit with it. Drag your own WAV onto layer B to use yours instead.
Drag the hit out
Drag the finished hit onto a track as a 24-bit WAV at your session rate, with the FX printed. Each drag is a new file in Documents/Deish Media/Smack Renders.
Every hit a little different
VARY nudges each hit so a roll does not sound like one sample repeated. Velocity sets how hard the hit lands, and PIANO plays it chromatically across the keyboard.
Eight stages, already on the channel
HEAT, GRIT, SCULPT, SWEEP, MOTION, PRESS, RELAY and SPACE: the same family of engines as Base6ix and Ryza, on the end of the drum, each with its own enable.

Roll the die
DICE takes the synth from one preset, the sample from another and the FX from a third. Right-click it to choose which parts it may change. A roll you like is one Save away, and a roll you do not is one undo.

A preset browser with categories, your own presets saved by name, a saved default for new instances, and undo for every edit and every preset load.

The complete plug-in on a 30-day trial. The same download becomes the licensed version when you paste in a serial. It is the Strike installer: Smack, Palma and Cymba with their sound libraries, each a tick-box you can leave out.
Installing on Windows? Windows may show an “unrecognised app” prompt the first time, because we are a new publisher. Click More info, then Run anyway. The installer is signed, and the publisher shown is Dishit Patel. The macOS installer is signed and notarized by Apple.

Questions
Is it a sample player?
No. Layer A synthesises every hit from oscillators and noise as you play it. Layer B adds a sample underneath when you want one, and you can turn it down to nothing.
Does it work on a Mac?
Yes. The signed and notarized macOS installer has VST3, AU and the standalone app for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and one licence covers Windows and macOS machines alike.
Can I play rolls on it?
Yes. It retriggers cleanly on every note, VARY keeps a fast roll from sounding like a machine gun, and FLAM adds grace taps when you want a dragged stroke.
What are the samples?
Real recorded snares from the built-in library, 75 of them, trimmed and levelled. Most presets carry one on layer B, chosen to sit with that synth patch. Drop your own WAV on the layer to swap it.
